When I (Brandon) was in junior high, I began to experience a huge change of heart. This first happened when God began showing me that I had been spending a lot of time and energy on the wrong kinds of things: cool friends, cool clothes, and of course, a cool reputation. I began to see that none of those things were ever going to satisfy me deep down inside. It was around this time that I decided to really give up control of my life and surrender to the only One I needed to rest my security and satisfaction in: Jesus. He alone had given up His life on the cross and risen from the dead that I might be forgiven, have new life, and know God. It was at a weekend conference in 1996 where, for the first time, I experienced the peace and joy of knowing I had been rescued from my disobedience. I told Him I wanted to give Him total control. There was a tremendous weight lifted off of me and I felt free like I had never felt before. That was when I met Jesus. And I will never be the same.
I (Michelle) was raised in a godly home and knew of Jesus for as long as I can remember. I first prayed a personal prayer inviting Jesus into my life as a young child, around the age of five. Before sixth grade, I attended a summer camp where the speaker emphasized the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus. He shared that it wasn't enough to simply believe what your parents believe. I (again) dedicated my life to the Lord with a better understanding of what it means to believe in, rely on, and trust in Jesus.
We were introduced by a mutual Pastor and his wife while we were in college (not a simple task since Brandon grew up in CA and Michelle in IL!) We got married in 2005 and lived in IL for three years, moving to the San Jose area in 2008. We are doing our best to raise our young family to know Jesus personally as we attempt to live lives that demonstrate - in word and deed - that only Jesus can truly satisfy our hearts.
Since joining Mercy Hill Church, the Lord has brought about major growth in our lives, and we are confident that He has called us to come alongside parents of middle schoolers in teaching their students about Jesus. We love Jesus, and we love Jr. Highers!
