What is Church?
Too often people think church means attending a weekly program. But Jesus said church was more – much more.
Jesus said church meant relationships. It meant being part of a group of people who care about each other. Who weep when each other weeps and rejoice when each other rejoices. Who sincerely listen to each other and earnestly pray for each other. Who strengthen each other with encouragement and meaningful Scriptures. And who join together to reach out to a hurting world.
Church is not a meeting you attend,
it’s a group of people you know and love.
This is both a great joy and a great responsibility. Because Jesus taught that passionate Christ-centered community is essential if we are going to keep persevering in the faith (Luke 22:31-32). Other believers need your love and encouragement if they are going to continue in the faith – and you need their love and encouragement.
So how can we experience this level of relationship and community? One way is through Home Groups.
What are Home Groups?
Home Groups are groups of 6 to 15 people who meet together regularly to help each other pursue joy in Jesus. We share our joys and struggles. We study the Bible together. We sing and worship. We pray for each other. We talk together about how we are advancing Jesus’ mission.
We meet for about an hour and a half and people participate at whatever level they feel comfortable with. If you just want to sit and observe – that’s just fine!
